nine months old

i feel as if the last month has brought about the biggest and most noticeable changes in milo yet.

for one: this kid is growing like a weed! every time that we see friends who haven't seen him in a week or so, they swear that he is bigger than the last time they saw him. what i notice most, of course, is how much heavier he is. it's always a surprise to go to pick him up and he's much more dense than i'm expecting him to be, and i give a little "oof." it doesn't even feel like he's a baby anymore.

he's picking up so many skills! and so fast! every single day, he can do something he couldn't do the day before. earlier this week, he learned how to lower himself to the ground again after pulling himself to standing. yesterday he taught himself how to crawl off the mattress and onto the floor. today he figured how how to drink from a sippy cup.

here he is yesterday, working on his sippy cup skills (the password is "milo"):

we try not to assume that he can't do something just because he couldn't do it last week. unfortunately for our nerves and for milo's forehead, along with these new skills comes bumps and bruises and the occasional tears, but he just picks himself right up and tries again, and we're taking the cue from him to back off and just let him explore, safely.

here is milo eating one of his new favorite foods, seitan:

i make the seitan for him from scratch with very little sodium and added ground flax seed for essential fatty acids.

milo and i went to see sound of music in the park a few weeks ago while matt was working, and here is milo trying to break into his mama's snack of soy jerky:

here he is sitting outside at one of our favorite restaurants, looking like a perfect combination of his mom and his dad:

one of his favorite games is to screw up his face and breathe like a bull, and then i do it back to him, and we do it back and forth for a while:

we went to target yesterday to get a couple of storage boxes for our move, and milo was excited about being big enough to sit in the cart:

we are having so much fun. it's impossible not to be happy when the baby you're living with spends so much of his day laughing and squealing with delight and viewing the whole world like a giant game. even when he wakes up at 7 AM for no good reason, he pops up in the bed next me, cackles and pokes me until i roll over, and then laughs and shrieks with joy and crawls over me to wake his dad up in the same manner.

the next time i update, i'll be doing so from texas, after we've settled in!
